The president of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo has granted amnesty for 794 deserving prisoners.
In the accordance with Article 72(1) of the 1992 constitution which states that the president shall have the power to reprieves , pardons, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the sentence of any person convicted of any offence.
In an audio below this article, the groupings comprise 772 first offenders , 16 very old (70 years and above ) and 4 seriously ill.
Two Death sentence have also been commuted to life imprisonment.
This forms part of government effort to ensure the congestion of Ghana prisoners.
