Lifting ban on collection of PTA dues not an option now

The Instruction Services, GES, states it is not able to carry the ban on the immediate involvement of the Parent-Instructor Associations in Senior High University infrastructure improvement.

Public Relations Officer at the GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, points out that until a committee which is tasked to search into the actions of PTAs completes its function, the ban will still be in pressure.

The General public Desire and Accountability Committee (PIAC) experienced earlier asked education authorities to lift the ban to permit PTAs to assist schools to fulfill their infrastructure requires.

But Cassandra Twum Ampofo, explained while the ban is in spot, charity that will not stress college students are welcomed.

“If any group or particular person desires to support a college, GES will let them to go in advance and do it. What is essential to us is that their functions really should not have an affect on training and studying. No college students should be sacked or go through from PTA dues or any functions of mom and dad in the school. Right until the committee is done with what they are functioning on, we can not lift that suspension.”

PIAC’s arguments

PIAC observed in its No cost SHS implementation report that the go has deprived numerous schools of the needed extra infrastructure.

Specialized Manager at PIAC, taken care of that the PTAs must be permitted to run within the college structure albeit as voluntary companies.

“There need to be a technique in area where by the PTA can function independently outside the house the faculty method. So now that there is this momentary ban on the PTA, we want the ban to be lifted so that the PTA can operate to help the colleges.”

When the Free Secondary Education policy started, there were grievances that educational facilities had been charging PTA levies to go over goods like mosquito nets, brooms, hoes and other implements.

Regional and district directors of schooling have also been put on notify to retain a nearer eye on next cycle colleges.

GES’ defends conclusion

According to the GES, this is to allow them to streamline and critique all such levies in all second cycle schools

The Director-Basic of the GES, Prof. Kwesi Opoku Amankwa, instructed the Daly Graphic that his outfit was worried with the proliferation of all manner of levies below the guise of PTA dues.

“These levies are defeating the objective of the governing administration in removing charge as a barrier to secondary instruction in Ghana,” he claimed

Prof. Amankwa mentioned, “pending the streamlining and overview of all these levies, it is the expectation of the administration that heads of faculties and PTA executives will cooperate in this workout to make sure that the no cost SHS programme is successfully applied.”
