The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has threatened to arrest and prosecute food vendors operating without health certificates in the Metropolis.
A survey conducted by Angel News Akua kesewaa revealed that some vendors are operating without a health certificate.
The survey also revealed that some of the food vendors are operating with health certificates.
The Convener of KMA Environmental and Sanitation department Hon Muslim Yakubu speaking in an interview with Akua kesewaa explained that the assembly has a by-law that requires all food vendors to be medically screened to prove that they are healthy enough to sell food to the public.
According to Hon Muslim Salifu, the assembly to deploy a task force to chase food vendors operating in the Metropolis without a health certificate.
“When to come to the assembly, we have the law that every food vendor operating within the Metropolis should come to the assembly for a health screening and after that, the assembly will issue a health certificate to the food vendor” he explained.
He added that “the health certificate should be renewed yearly and all food vendors are expected to practice good hygiene”
“Food Vendors who will breach KMA by-laws will be arrested and prosecuted. KMA will start chasing food vendors soon and those who are not having health certificates will be arraigned before court for prosecution”.
He, therefore, advised the general public to demand health certificates from food vendors when they are going to buy food.
