The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Constituency Dr Kingsley Nyarko has urged former President John Dramani Mahama to demonstrate and statesmanship by calling President Akuffo Addo to concede defeat and congratulate him for winning the 2020 general elections fairly.
The NDC and former President John Dramani Mahama lost the election petition they filed to the Supreme Court of Ghana after the Electoral Commission declared President Akuffo Addo as the elected president in 2020 general elections.
Former President John Dramani Mahama after accepting the Supreme Court ruling is yet to call President Akuffo Addo to congratulate him and concede defeat.
The Kwadaso legislature Dr. Kingsley Nyarko speaking on Kumasi based Pure Fm Morning Drive hosted by Kwame Adinkrah monitored by Ghtimesonline.com said former President John Dramani Mahama should follow the 2013 example of President Nana Akufo-Addo (then-petitioner) in the country’s first election petition, when the latter congratulated the former (then-President), after the Supreme Court affirmed the Electoral Commission’s declared presidential results.
According to Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, President Akuffo Addo demonstrated maturity and statesmanship by calling former President John Dramani Mahama to concede defeat and congratulate him after 20213 Supreme Court verdicts.
“Former President John Dramani has set a bad precedent for failing to call President Akuffo Addo to congratulate him and concede defeat. He is a statesman and he shouldn’t do anything that affects his chance of becoming president again. Though his party members are excited because he (former President Mahama) has failed to call Nana Addo but the majority of Ghanaians now see him as someone who doesn’t think about the peace Ghanaians are enjoying”
Dr. Kingsley Nyarko explained that “It is not too late for former President John Dramani to call President Akuffo Addo to congratulate him and concede defeat because a statement should always demonstrate maturity”
