The Executive Director of Alliance For Social Equity and Public Accountability (A.S.E.P.A) Mr. Mensah Thompson has stated emphatically that the new Special Prosecutor (SP) Mr. Kissi Agyebeng is expected to revive the public interest that has painfully dwindled away from the office.
Legal Practitioner and Chairman of the Electronic Communications Tribunal, Kissi Agyebeng has been earmarked to replace Martin Amidu as the next Special Prosecutor.
The President is, however, yet to make a formal declaration of his nomination to the Special prosecutor office.
His nomination was done by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Godfred Dame in a letter to the President on April 16, 2021.
The Executive Director for ASEPA, Mr. Mensah Thompson in a statement said the appointment of Mr. Kissi Agyebeng as Special Prosecutor comes at a time when serious non-performance and scandalous Executive interference has left the office of the Special Prosecutor almost redundant for about six (6) months.
According to Mr. Mensah Thompson, Public interest in the office has almost dwindled to zero (0) barely three (3) years after the establishment of the office that was met with certain public excitement.
“Even though Mr. Kissi Agyebeng may not have a resume of an experienced prosecutor like his predecessor Mr. Martin Amidu, there are great appraisals for his technical and administrative competencies. Our expectations are that Mr. Kissi Agyebeng brings to the Special Prosecutor essential administrative reforms, institute a viable investigative Unit of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and bring in experienced prosecutors to give the office a facelift” Mr. Thompson said.
“Mr. Kissi Agyebeng is also expected to stamp on his authority and influence on the office as soon as possible by reviving a number of other cases handled by his predecessors, complete a number of unfinished investigations, initiate prosecution for a number of completed investigations and most importantly initiate new actions on a number of scandals like the Frontier Covid- 19 test contract at the airport, carry a corruption risk audit on the use of the Covid-19 fund establishment by government and others”
