The Founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Akwasi Addae Odike has urged the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah to step down as Regional Minister for disrespecting Asanteman in an attempt to diplomatically gagged Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II over the fight against illegal mining known as galamsey.
The King of the Ashanti region Otumfuo Osei Tutu during galamey dialogue at KNUST disclosed that the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah and the Minister of Land and Natural Resources wanted to direct him on what to say about the galamsey menace.
According to him, he agreed to go according to the script they gave him but realized that there is a need to condemn high-profile persons who were involved in the illegal act in order to serve as a deterrent to others who want to engage in the act.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Nhyira Fm Kukurantumi show hosted by Nana Kojo Juantuah monitored by Ghtimesonline.com, Akwasi Addai Odike emphasied that, the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah leading the Minister of Land and Natural Resources Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor to gag Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II clearly shows that he has no respect for the good people of Asanteman.
According to Odike, The Ashanti Regional Minister should know that gaging Asantehene Otumfour is like gaging Asanteman and it doesn’t show respect to respect to even make an attempt to gag Otumfour on what he should say.
“As for the Minister of Land and Natural Resources Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor I will never blame him that much because he is not from Ashanti Region and he doesn’t know the cultural values of Asanteman but I will blame the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah for making that attempt to gag Otumfour” Odike said.
Odike added “Hon Simon Osei Mensah the Ashanti Regional Minister should resign and apologize to Otumfour Osei Tutu II and good people of Asaanteman for attempted to gag Asantehene”
