The former Presiding Member for Kwadaso Municipal Assembly who is also a member of the Ashanti Regional NPP Communication team, Kwame Kwakye has called on President Akufo-Addo’s government to arrest and prosecute owners of collapsed banks.
UT Bank, Beige Bank together with some four indigenous banks like Unibank Ghana, Construction Bank, Sovereign Bank, and Royal Bank were merged by the Bank of Ghana to form the Consolidated Bank after their collapse.
Speaking in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo, Kwame Kwakye commended President Akufo-Addo’s for cleaning up the banking sector adding that it has yielded positive results.
According to him, “though some of the owners of the collapsed banks have been arrested and others are in court; the government should be fast on the prosecution of all the owners of the collapsed banks”.
The prosecution and jailing of these officials according to Kwame Kwakye, should include the owners of the collapsed banks due to the malpractice and illegality associated with their setup and operations.
“if those involved in those acts are not jailed, they may turn out to open up another bank elsewhere. Arresting and prosecuting collapsed bank owners will make owners banks be vigilant and protect depositors money” Kwame Kwakye said.
“Ghanaians should thank President Akufo-Addo’s government for saving the financial sector. Depositors of these banks investment is safe because of the government’s intervention”.
