The former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong Hon Nurudeen Hamidan has called on the Ministry of Education (MoE) to call the headmistress of Cape Coast Wesley Girls Senior High School Mrs Kay Oppong Ankomah to order for stopping Muslims students in the school from Fasting and practicing Muslim religion.
The headmistress of Wesley Girls Senior High School has ordered a bigoted rule to be implemented against Muslim students who fast during the Ramadan period.
According to the new rule, students who fast during the Ramadan period are to be suspended or withdrawn from the school.
The former MCE for Asokore Mampong Hon Nurudeen Hamidan in a Facebook post cited by Ghtimesonline.com said “I am calling on the Minister of Education to call the headmistress of Cape Coast Wesley Girls Senior High School Mrs Kay Oppong Ankomah to order”.
According to Hon Nurudeen Hamidan, “stopping and preventing Muslim students from fasting and practicing their religion is not good for our religious cohesion”.
“I attended Anglican Secondary School and I was never stopped from Fasting and practicing my religion. In fact, the headmaster even gave us a place to create a mosque for prayers. The action of this woman is not proper and must be reversed immediately” Hon Nurudeen Hamidan said.
