The Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mahmud Kabore, has called on the government to come up with a pragmatic and permanent solution to the Fulani herdsmen menace in the constituency.
There have been clashes between the Fulani Herdsmen and farmers over grazing lands for cattle often leads to the destruction of farmlands, killing of cattle, and even the loss of lives.
The situation is threatening to spiral out of control, with farmers in some parts of the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency demanding guns to confront the Fulani cattle herders whom they accuse of destroying their farmlands.
Speaking in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo monitored by Ghtimesoneline.com, Mahmud Kabore said it had become necessary because of the debilitating effect of the activities of the Fulani herdsmen on the livelihoods of farmers and property alike in the communities in which the herdsmen operated.
According to him, farmers in the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency feel uncomfortable visiting their farmers due to how Fulani Herdsmen are tormenting their lives.
Mahmud Kabore listed communities in the Constituency like Hamidu, Moosi Panin,
and others, where the farmers are farms, have been destroyed by the Fulani Herdsmen.
“Last year the situation was not serious but this year, the Fulani Herdsmen have come back and the farmers are seriously suffering. Farmers have been destroyed while farmers have been attacked by the Herdsmen” Mahmud Kabore said.
“It is difficult for the farmers in the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency to go to their farms because of the activities of the Herdsmen. It is time government finds lasting solution to address the Fulani issues in the country”.
